Brandi rocks at Satan's Cesspool

Brandi and I headed up to the S.F. American River on Saturday March 2, 2007. The flows were pushy at 2,200 cfs. Lots of water in the narrow gorge. We both had some fun challenges with some sticky holes. No swims on this beautiful day though. It was sunny and warm.

Wintertime on the Merced River

On Tuesday February 27, 2007 Jeremy, Larry and Brandi headed up to the Merced River for their first time. None of them had run this section before, but with guidebooks in hand and advice from friends they were stoked to get on the water. With the overnight rain the river had risen from 561 cfs to 1310 cfs.

Before getting on the river Jeremy had an incident at a roadside port-a-potty!

Once on the river they experienced periods of sun, clouds, rain, hail and snow. Yes, this is the second time for Jeremy and Larry to be paddling during a snowfall.
Make sure your speakers are on before checking out the video below. It was a great day for some winter time paddling!

Wintertime on the Moke!

Today, February 13, 2007, Jeremy, Brandi and I headed up to the Moke.

This is in Jeremy and Brandi's backyard. They are both very familiar with this run. This is my first time paddling with Brandi. She hadn't paddled for several months, but you couldn't tell it from the way she took on each rapid. We had a great time and are still searching for more winter-time paddling destinations. Let it rain...

South Fork American

Larry McAbee, Jeremy Lynn, and myself took a run down the SFA yesterday. For Jeremy and Larry, it was their Sophmore run. Both did great. We stopped at all the play spots along the way, and tried our best to do some playboating. With the cold temperatures, and lack of recent practice, it was pretty entertaining. Enjoy the video.

N. Fork Kings revisited

1-16-07

We hit the N. Fork Kings again today. It was a pretty, but cold day on the water. Dan Hogg, Daniel Lundberg, Paul Martzen, and myself all had great runs. Unfortunatly, Chucks's Leap had it's way with us today, causing 2 swims, and two close calls. We put on with around 800 cfs and instead of the water receding throughout the day, it held strong. This led to a lot more water than last weeks run, and consequently, a more challenging river. In the end we were all smiles and everyone was glad they made the trip.

007 Mt. Bike day

Daniel, Frank, and myself took a nice trip up to Bass Lake to Mt. Bike the 007 trail. We took our time going up, and even walked down to a natural flowing river. It was a beautiful ride up, with a terrific downhill section. Enjoy the video.

Adventure Larry checks in...

I talked to Evan on Thursday night. He told me how much fun he and Paul had on the N.F. Kings River. I spoke with Jeremy and he drove from Modesto today so we could run part of that and part of the main fork of the Kings River.

On the N.F. I rolled once and the cold water took my breath away. We continued down to the main fork of the Kings River and it began to snow on us. After a quick scout of Rooster Tail we ran it almost flawlessly. It was roaring at this flow.

We left a car at the P.G. & E. Kings River Powerhouse for the take-out. When we got to that rapid we did a quick boat scout and headed down. I was worried about undercuts against the large rocks on river right. Both of us flipped next to those rocks and got a little beat up underwater, with both of us swimming. Jeremy's boat got pinned and I continued downstream with mine. Only took us a little under an hour to get it unpinned.

By this time the snow had picked up and my car's thermometer registered at 33˙. Yes, it was a great day on the river.

A beautiful start

Pinned Boat

One Hour later and it's still pinned

Here comes the White Stuff

Glad to have the boat on the car and off the river
